Diamondbacks Make Roster Moves: Cecconi, Martin, and Walston Sent to Triple-A Reno

Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Slade Cecconi (43) throws in the bullpen during spring training workouts at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale on Feb. 15, 2024.

In their third round of player assignments, the Arizona Diamondbacks have opted to send Slade Cecconi, Corbin Martin, and Blake Walston to Triple-A Reno.

Additionally, outfielder Kyle Garlick has been reassigned to Minor League camp, bringing the Diamondbacks’ camp roster to 36 players.

Of the players optioned, Slade Cecconi is the only one who saw time in the majors last season, starting four games and making three relief appearances. Over 27 innings pitched, Cecconi posted a 4.33 ERA. With the Diamondbacks bolstering their starting pitching depth, Cecconi’s move to Triple-A comes as little surprise.

As for Blake Walston, he was drafted in the 1st round of the 2019 draft by Arizona. Walston recorded a 4.52 ERA with the Reno Aces last year.

Corbin Martin previously played with the Diamondbacks, though not in 2023. Two years ago, Martin made seven appearances, posting a 4.84 ERA.

Notably absent from the list of players optioned is Blaze Alexander, who has been performing exceptionally well during spring camp.

Stay tuned for further updates.
