Ryne Nelson started on the mound for Arizona, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits. The Athletics took an early lead with Zack Gelof hitting a 417-ft home run off Nelson in the top of the 3rd inning. Gelof had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-for-3.

The Diamondbacks managed to respond with a run in the bottom of the 3rd, thanks to Geraldo Perdomo’s speed on the bases.

In the 5th inning, the Athletics took back their lead by scoring three more runs. Ricky Karcher, who had previously contributed three scoreless innings in this year’s spring training, surrendered three earned runs on five hits during his appearance. Miguel Andujar played a key role in extending the Athletics’ lead to 4-1 with a two-out, two-run double.

An inning later, Oakland added another two runs against Miguel Castro, who has given up six earned runs across 4.1 innings this spring training.

From the 4th inning on, the Diamondbacks struggled offensively, managing just three more hits even as they showcased what could be their lineup for opening day.

The D-backs would not score again until the bottom of the 9th, after an absurd six walks, including four-in-a-row that came with two outs, led to five more runs. The game ended with Arizona stranding the bases loaded.

Key players Ketel Marte, Christian Walker, Gabriel Moreno, Joc Pederson, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Eugenio Suarez, and Alek Thomas had a combined performance of 0-for-17 at the plate.

The Diamondbacks are scheduled to face the San Diego Padres next, with the game set for 1:10 PM tomorrow.
