Amidst the 76ers’ slide in the Eastern Conference standings, exacerbated by Joel Embiid’s absence due to left knee surgery, owner Daryl Morey reportedly made a last-minute push to secure some of the league’s biggest stars before the trade deadline.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Morey reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers regarding a potential trade for LeBron James and also approached the Phoenix Suns to inquire about the availability of Kevin Durant.

Additionally, Wojnarowski revealed that the Golden State Warriors attempted unsuccessfully to acquire LeBron James. He explained:

The Warriors were eager to present a package deal to L.A., but neither the Lakers nor James were willing to explore a potential blockbuster. Even at 39 years old, James is still playing at an All-NBA level that stirred the Warriors’ imagination about his ability to extend the window of the franchise’s fading dynasty.

Currently, the Lakers and Warriors are neck and neck with each other in the Western Conference. If the season were to end today, they would be fighting an uphill battle in the play-in tournament.

Meanwhile, the Suns, who wanted no business in selling at the deadline, sit in 4th.
