Suns go for another season sweep with new additions: Suns at Warriors game preview and prediction

© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns (31-21, 5th in Western Conference) travel to play the Golden State Warriors (24-25, 11th in Western Conference), as both teams are riding three-game win streaks.

Both of these teams have also won five of their last six games with road losses to the Atlanta Hawks the only defeats to both teams during this stretch. New additions Royce O’Neale and David Roddy are available to make their debuts for Phoenix, while the Warriors did not make any moves at the trade deadline, so they have no new faces.

The Suns have won all three games against the Warriors this year and will go for the season sweep tonight. This will be their second straight opportunity to do so, as they completed a 4-0 season record over the Jazz yesterday. In the last meeting between Phoenix and Golden State, the Suns won 119-116 in a game that featured an ejection and subsequent suspension to Draymond Green after he landed a blow to Jusuf Nurkić’s face.

The Suns are looking to build off Thursday’s 129-115 victory over the Utah Jazz, in which they totaled a season-high 37 team assists even without Devin Booker. Grayson Allen contributed a career-high 14 of these, while Kevin Durant had 31 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Bradley Beal notched 31 points and seven assists.

The Warriors crushed the Indiana Pacers 131-109 Thursday night behind 42 points from Stephen Curry, which included a perfect 6-for-6 clip from downtown in the first quarter.

The Warriors will be without Chris Paul, who has not played since Jan. 5 with a broken hand. Only Damion Lee will be out for the Suns, as Booker was not on the injury report.

Five Keys to Game for Suns

  1. Continuing great ball movement
  2. Let defense play into offense
  3. Take advantage of Warriors’ lack of size inside
  4. Defending Warriors’ bench
  5. Limiting turnovers

Prediction

Suns 132 – Warriors 120

This should be another high-scoring game for Phoenix, and they have had the Warriors’ number so far this season despite not being fully healthy in any of their previous matchups. I expect this dominance to continue tonight because the Suns have just been on a string as of late and appear to be laser-focused now that their roster is pretty much set for the rest of the season. They have found a way to have a balanced attack on offense, yet still get players going individually which has not been huge.

The Warriors have been hot too and their bench has played really well against the Suns so far this season, so there will be stretches where they play really well, so this could game could be closer than it should. If Golden State decides to go small with Draymond Green at the five for most of the game, the Suns have been playing really well against small-ball lineups, so they could feast in this matchup.

Last Meeting (Dec. 12, 2023)

Suns stay undefeated against Warriors this season with 119-116 win
