Women’s college basketball: Arizona State dominated by Oregon State, 92-55

The Arizona State Sun Devils were looking for their first win in Pac-12 play on the road against the Oregon State Beavers. Oregon State was coming off of an overtime win against Arizona and was looking to carry over the momentum from that game.

First Quarter

Oregon State got off to a great start and were up 12-3 with 6:29 left in the quarter. Raegen Beers and Talia von Oelhoffen led the team to this early start.

The Sun Devils cut the lead to six points with 3:58 left. Oregon State was up 18-12, then they went on a 10-2 run to end the quarter. At the end of the first quarter Oregon State led 28-14.

Second Quarter

The second quarter was a low scoring quarter for both teams. Oregon State outscored ASU, 18-9, in the quarter and went into halftime up, 46-23.

Third Quarter

The third quarter was closely played but this was not enough as ASU needed to make a big run. Oregon State outscored Arizona State, 22-17.

The bright spots for the Sun Devils in that quarter were Jayln Brown and Jaddan Simmons as they still competed hard, despite the deficit they were facing.

Fourth Quarter

The Beavers outscored the Sun Devils again in fourth, 24-15. Oregon State emptied their bench to end the game. They went on to win, 92-55.

Standout Stats

The consistency that Oregon State played with was very impressive. They were able to build up a big lead early and never let ASU back into the game. The Beavers outscored the Sun Devils in each quarter.

Beers was great in this game, she finished with 27 points and 15 rebounds. The sophomore shot 13/17 from the floor. Another player who contributed in a major way for Oregon State was Talia von Oelhoffen. She finished the game with 14 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds.

The leading scorer for ASU was Jayln Brown with 20 points. She accumulated a lot of her points at the free throw line. She shot 9/10 from the charity stripe.

Journey Thompson played well in this game. She finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Thompson was also efficient, making seven of her 18 shots.

Up Next

Oregon State is now 14-2 overall on the season and 3-2 in Pac-12 play. In their next game, they will be on the road against the (12-5) (2-3 in conference) California Golden Bears on January 19th.

Arizona State is now 8-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. They will look for their first win in the Pac-12 on the road against the (12-5) (1-3, in conference) Washington State Cougars. This game is also on January 19th.
