Corona del Sol’s Championships

The Corona del Sol Aztecs Varsity Baseball team has not been able to bring home a state championship for quite some time.

The team last won a championship in 2009 when they defeated the Hamilton Huskies. They have had just one championship appearance since then, where they were defeated by the Huskies in 2019.

The Aztecs have a winning culture and have goals of reaching and bringing home a state championship every year. They will look to achieve that goal this upcoming season.

Departures

The Aztecs lost several key players that contributed heavily to the team’s success to graduation this past May.

Their most significant loss was pitcher/first baseman Cole Carlon. Carlon was dominant all over the field, batting .375 on a team-high 33 hits and 28 RBIs. He also went 8-2 in the games he pitched, with an outstanding 1.95 ERA.

Despite the loss of their most impactful player, Corona del Sol has the talent to make up for it. Junior infielder Jaiden Lo Re was a crucial part of the team during his junior year and will only have more responsibilities this season. He finished last season with 28 hits and 16 RBIs, which both ranked top-three on the team.

Season Outlook

Considering the loss of the team’s leading batter and pitcher, it will be difficult to recoup immediately but the Aztecs are more than capable of doing so.

As stated, Corona baseball has not brought in a state championship for quite some time and will look to do so this upcoming season.
