After going 22-7 and losing to the eventual champions Perry Pumas in the quarterfinals of the open state playoffs, Liberty will try to overcome that loss.
The Lions have had a somewhat rocky start to the new season, currently standing at 6-6. The team did lose its top four leaders in scoring from last season to graduation.
However, a player who has stepped up for the Lions is senior forward/center Ring Nyeri. Nyeri is currently the No. 12 ranked prospect in the state from the class of 2024, according to On3’s recruit rankings. In nine games played this season, he averages 20.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.4 steals, and a ridiculous 4 blocks per game.
????Record Alert ????
Congrats to Ring Nyeri who set Liberty’s blocked shots school record with 11 against Higley. The record (6) was previously held by Foune Doucoure. Ring also recorded Liberty’s first ever Triple Double with 11 points, 18 rebounds, 11 blocks, and 6 assists. pic.twitter.com/vAzjWgI8og

While the team has not been great to start the season, they undoubtedly have the talent and coaching to make a push come playoff time.
Queen Creek’s Start
The Bulldogs (7-3) are currently on a five-game win streak after they started the season at just 2-3.
This is head coach Ben Torbert’s first season with the team and he has turned the program in a new direction. They went just 11-16 last season and have looked significantly better.

After not competing in the playoffs last season, they are on pace to have a shot at the open state playoffs coming up in the new year.
Matchup Outlook
Each of these teams has a long way to go but a common goal of making a run in the open state or 6A playoffs this season.
A win here can further give them the momentum needed to make a push through the end of the regular season.
Make sure you are tuned in to this one tonight.
