The story of this game was on the other side, though, as TCU’s Micah Peavy became the third player in school history to record a triple-double. Peavy finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists.

Miller led the Sun Devils with 20 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals in his first game since being made eligible. The guard was a beneficiary of the NCAA getting rid of their dual-transfer rule on Thursday.

First Half

It started off fast for the Sun Devils tonight. Arizona State, behind Miller, jumped out to a fast 23-9 lead. Miller had 13 of these points as everything was falling for him early. However, It didn’t last long, as TCU was able to close the gap before halftime. Going into the break, TCU went on a 17-7 run to only be down 30-26.

Miller finished with 15 in the half. He was by far the leading scorer for the Sun Devils, with Kamari Lands in second place with 5. Micah Peavy was already at six points, six rebounds, and three assists headed to the break for TCU.

Second Half

The second half was where it started to unravel for the Sun Devils. They were facing a tough TCU team, who was 7-1. That one loss was against #13 Clemson in their last game. So, with the Horned Frogs down four starting the second half, they went on a 33-10 run to start.

That is not the full story, however. Early in this half, ASU made two layups in a row to give them a one-point lead. Things were looking competitive for the Sun Devils. However, Alonzo Gaffney and Bobby Hurley were given technical fouls right after. This gave TCU four free throws, which they made and started the big run. Those techs deflated the Sun Devils the rest of the way and never looked like the same team.

The game was back and forth after, with the lead always hovering around 20. Miller added five more points to his 20-point performance, while Micah Peavy added an assist late to get him that triple-double that made history for the Horned Frogs. Jameer Nelson Jr. made a three on the last possession for TCU to end the game 79-59.

Recap

TCU shot 55% from the field and from three in the second half, accumulating 53 second-half points. This is the second game in a row the Sun Devils have allowed more than 50 points in the second half. The Sun Devils, however, shot 38% from the field and 25% from three over the entire game, which will not get it done over good teams.

Jose Perez added to Miller’s great night with 11 of his own, but that was it for the Sun Devils. Emanuel Miller finished with 18 for TCU, while Nelson Jr. added 11.

This game moves TCU to 8-1, while the Sun Devils drop to 6-4 with their second loss in a row. The Sun Devils are begging for answers at this point, and they will have to find them quickly as they face a ranked Northwestern team in the Footprint Center on Wednesday.
