Phoenix Suns’ forward Chimezie Metu post-practice press conference 12/10/23 as the Phoenix Suns (12-10) are set to play the Golden State Warriors (10-12) Tuesday night (Dec. 12) at Footprint Center
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Suns are currently on their second of three full days off to figure out their recent struggles, as they have lost four of their last five after falling 114-106 to the Sacramento Kings Friday.
However, Metu has been a huge bright spot for Phoenix with a multitude of players out. Many thought he would be a key role player after a strong preseason, but that really never came to life until he showed a lot of potential vs. the Kings.
Going against his former team Friday, he had a season high in just about every category. He finished with 10 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 23 minutes off the bench.
“It was good,” Metu said of the matchup. “Obviously wanted to come out with the W, but they’re a good team. I think they kind of taught us a lot about ourselves, so it’s always good to face good competition.”
Before Friday’s contest, Metu had not played more than 15 minutes in a single game. He has only played over 10 minutes in four games this season, but has impressed during his time on the floor. Metu said that this is unfortunately a challenge he has had to face throughout his NBA career.
“It’s tough, I won’t lie,” Metu said of the mental aspect of staying ready. “But, I like being here, coming to the gym. Being around these guys, they’ve made it easy for me because I’ve been in situations where it wasn’t easy to come to the gym, and I didn’t have that joy.”
Now, the Suns have a decision to make whether to give Metu, who can play both the 4 and 5 positions, a permanent spot in the rotation, once they are healthy.
