Frankie Collins Historic Night Showed He is Ready to Lead This Team

Frankie Collins tied the school record for steals in a game with 8. He only had 11 points, but two of them might’ve been the most crucial of the season. With time winding down after getting his 7th steal, Collins sunk a huge layup to give ASU the lead for the final time. He also stole the final inbound as time expired to seal the game. It was a huge moment for one of the leaders of this team.

Collins has shown he can lead this team, but this game cemented it. He was passionate, telling his teammates what to do and coming up huge when the team needed it most. He knows Bobby Hurley’s system, and he knows he can run it. That showed tonight.

Bobby Hurley talked about Frankie Collins in his postgame press conference, specifically the passion he showed.

“Frankie wants to win and make plays.” Hurley said, “We were all struggling together for most of that game. I’m happy he was able to step up and make some plays at the end.”

Collins had eight steals. Six came in the second half, and three came in the final 90 seconds. Collins led ASU against Texas Southern to draining two late threes to seal the game, but this was different. Those weren’t “got to have it” situations. ASU was already up by 6. This one was. ASU was down by nine with 2 minutes to go, and Frankie Collins took over.

“Frankie showed why he’s a winning point guard to close the game out,” Hurley said.
