Is It Too Early to Start Betting Against the Suns?

Before the season started, the Phoenix Suns looked like they were going to be the most fun team in basketball to bet on. After a loss to the Spurs where the Suns were heavily favored, they got a pass. It’s early in the season, and some things take time. However, the Suns were even bigger favorites in their second game against the Spurs and lost. Today, the Suns lost their third game in a row to the 76ers.

Couldn’t Even Cover the Spread

The Suns were obviously favored going into both of their matchups with the Spurs and couldn’t get a win. Before tipoff today though, the Suns were +5.5 and that’s a good line for the Suns to cover. The Sixers have been playing good basketball, but Phoenix has expectations to play to. Phoenix lost today’s game by 12 points, not even coming close to the spread. The Suns started off the year going 3-0 against the spread, when they were under dogs, and when they were favored. However, in the last three games, Phoenix hasn’t covered any of their spreads.

Do We Fade the Suns When the Big Three Isn’t Playing?

Suns fans have yet to see their teams new big three in action in the regular season. Bradley Beal has yet to play a game with Suns in the regular season. Devin Booker has only played two games so far this season. Even with Booker, the Suns are 1-1. One of those losses coming from the Spurs, who again, they should have dominated, on paper. Phoenix had to get rid of a ton of depth to have the big three they do now, and it hasn’t played together. The depth issue is showing and is frustrating NBA bettors.

If I’m a Suns Fan, How Do I Bet on Them and Hit?

In my opinion, as far as the Suns go, player props should be the bread and butter. Despite their play that can be discouraging to fans early on, there are ways to win money on the games. Kevin Durant for example, has been lighting up the stat sheet and trying to win games. When you look at one of the greatest scorers of all time, and the best all-around player on their roster, you can cook up some bets for him. There are also guys like Nurkic who has hit his over on rebounds just twice in the first six games. You can even hop on Prize Picks and look at some ridiculous looking bets, but that are very profitable. For instance, Eric Gordon has hit his over on three pointers attempted in four of the first six games.

There are ways to watch the games and as a fan, not be totally upset, because you can win some money. However, the point being, I think when the Suns get fully healthy, covering the spread and winning games outright will come. For now, I am a little skeptical.
