Paul Sewald breaks down what makes the Diamondbacks so dangerous

Arizona Diamondbacks fan Mike Dreckman stands in a sea of Philadelphia Phillies fans as he cheers on his team in Game 7 of their NLCS at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Oct. 24, 2023.

In addition to the ’embrace the chaos’ motto, the Arizona Diamondbacks have adopted the saying ‘snakes alive,’ a phrase that originated after Ketel Marte’s walk-off hit in Game 3 of the NLCS.

Originally trailing 2-0 in the series, many analysts had already written off the Diamondbacks, believing the Phillies were on a completely different level compared to Arizona.

However, Marte’s clutch base hit up the middle in Game 3 turned the series around.

It transformed the narrative from the snakes being dead in the water to the snakes being alive and thriving.

Now, as the Diamondbacks march into the World Series, they’re carrying over the ‘snakes alive’ mantra.

In an interview with MLB Network, Diamondbacks’ closer Paul Sewald proudly represented the slogan while discussing his journey this season and the remarkable progress the D-backs have made.

Sewald has been exceptional out of the bullpen for Arizona throughout this postseason. In eight closing opportunities, he hasn’t allowed a single run.

And the good news for Sewald is that he’s well-versed in facing the Texas Rangers, having been in the same division as them during his time with the Seattle Mariners.

In 20 innings against the Rangers, Sewald has surrendered just five earned runs on a mere 10 hits.

The stage is set for the 2023 World Series featuring the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers, with the first pitch scheduled for Friday at 5:07 PM Arizona time.
