ASU Baseball Gives High Praise to Freshman Class

Arizona State University catcher Ryan Campos (17) takes to the batter's box against Stanford during a game at Phoenix Municipal Stadium on May 6, 2023.

Today (10/26) I was able to talk to some of the players and coaches for the Sun Devils on how fall ball is going. I took away a couple big things, the offense is raking, the depth is insane, and the freshman class is setting high expectations for themselves.

Could the Sun Devils be a Top Ten Offense in the Country?

Arizona State players and coaches talk with much enthusiasm today about how good their lineup has looked. Not only the quality of their line up, but the depth of it as well. Sun Devils head coach Willie Bloomquist talked about his struggles finding a lineup. He Claimed the position battle is “a fun one” and how he can’t seem to find a starting lineup. Not because certain players are struggling, but because so many players are playing so well.

Players Hold Competition High with Position Battles

From the outside looking in, all of the Sun Devils are embracing the competition. With so many new faces around the facilities, players told the media how the chemistry is coming along well. Embracing the depth rather than being aggravated about your spot being taken shows how this ball club is bought in.

Freshman Standout

Thomas Burns, the true freshman from Hortonville, Wisconsin, has received a ton of hype based on his fall ball performance. Coaches and Burns teammates talked about his progress he has shown this fall. They also talked about how well he is transitioning from facing high schooler, to one of the top offenses in the country. Burns was the seventh ranked player in the state of Wisconsin by PBR. The 6’3″ right-handed pitcher lives in the high 80’s from what I have seen circle online.

The Sun Devils look to avenge a bitter ending to the year last season. Despite a lot of guys being drafted to the next level, ASU is still a team to worry about for other PAC-12 competitors.
