Fans were not happy with decision to pull Brandon Pfaadt early on in Game 3

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt (32) throws a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies during the first inning in game three of the NLCS of the 2023 MLB playoffs at Chase Field in Phoenix on Oct. 19, 2023.

As Game 3 was on the horizon, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo had already made the decision: Brandon Pfaadt would not face the Phillies lineup a third time around.

What Lovullo didn’t anticipate, however, was Brandon Pfaadt setting a new career high in strikeouts (9) and allowing only two hits through 5.2 innings.

Pfaadt achieved this against a Phillies offense that had scored 10 runs just two days earlier and is well on its way to breaking a postseason home run record.

At the time of this move, the Diamondbacks were locked in a 0-0 tie with the Phillies.

Understandably, fans were not too pleased with Torey Lovullo’s decision to pull Pfaadt, especially given the rookie’s seemingly unstoppable performance.
