Can The Diamondbacks Give This Player His First Ever Ring?

The Diamondbacks are 8 wins away from winning their second-ever championship in the franchise’s history. But for a lot of players on the team, this will be their first championship that they win ever.

I don’t believe it will mean more to anybody than it will to Evan Longoria if they happen to win it this season. Longoria burst onto the scene in 2008 when he was on the Tampa Bay Rays. In that season, he posted a 127 OPS+ with 27 home runs and 85 RBI in 122 games.

He won AL Rookie of the Year honors and helped lead the Tampa Bay Rays to the 2008 World Series. He hasn’t been back since but he has stated that he sees a lot of similarities with this Diamondbacks team and his 2008 Rays team.

“Yeah, these guys do remind me of that Tampa Bay team.” Says Longoria. “We have some really good young players, and I hope this ends in the same way except with us winning the trophy and not losing the World Series.”

Now, Longoria has climbed all the way to 16th in career WAR among third basemen, and he has a 119 OPS+ with 342 home runs and 1,159 RBI in 1,986 career games. The only thing missing from Longoria’s resume is a ring.
