Why Everyone Is a Diamondbacks Fan Today Despite Being Playoff Competitors

The National League Wildcard race this year is defiantly one for the books, with four teams being within one game. Despite all of the craziness between teams, all four fan bases seem to be pulling for Arizona.

The Diamondbacks are playing the biggest series of the year for not only their club, but others as well. As the Wildcard race stands right now, the Chicago Cubs are a game and a half up on the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks and Reds are also a half a game up on the Marlins, and a game up on the Giants.

With that being said, the Diamondbacks are the only team out of the four that are playing a very impactful series. The Diamondbacks are the only team facing up against another Wildcard contender. Chicago is the only team that, being beat, can help all four teams in contention. Philadelphia is basically running away with the first place spot, being four games up.

If Arizona can manage sweep on the Cubs, that would put the Marlins, Reds, and Giants in position to grab a Wildcard spot. The Diamondbacks would be able to grab the second spot.

Some underdogs that can come out on top

In my opinion, it’s something about that underdog fight that is making these fan bases gather around Arizona. Both the Reds and the Diamondbacks were picked at the beginning of the season to finish in the bottom twenty. The Diamondbacks and the Reds have against all odds managed to be right in the playoff push. Both fan bases being in the thick of it, together, has brought some sort of bond.
