San Antonio Spurs waive Cameron Payne

Almost two months after acquiring Cameron Payne from the Suns, the San Antonio Spurs are now waiving the point guard, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The 29-year-old now gets a chance to go to a contending team where he can have a bigger role.

Payne was upset when he was traded from the Suns, as he said on Instagram Live: “I wish I was in Phoenix still. It is what it is man, they trying to win the chip and I respect it. I feel like they could’ve won the chip with me though.”

A reunion with the Suns is not possible.

Payne averaged 10.3 points and 4.5 assists in 48 games for Phoenix last season. He ended off his time in the Valley with a bang, scoring 31 points in the Suns’ Game 6 loss against the Nuggets in the Western Conference Semifinals.

Several teams should be interested in the 6-foot-1 lefty when he hits the market.
