Merrill Kelly was absolutely masterful, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies.

In total, Kelly tossed seven innings while allowing just one earned run on four hits. Kelly also struck out 12 batters, which tied a career high.

This excellent starting performance allowed Torey Lovullo to only use two relievers, which is key considering the Diamondbacks are currently in a grueling 17-game stretch in as many days.

While closer Paul Sewald did run into some trouble in the 9th, a three-run lead was enough for the D-backs to secure the win.

On the offensive side, the Diamondbacks struck early with a run in the 3rd and three more in the 4th.

Corbin Carroll, the MLB’s leader in triples, added another to his tally with an RBI triple in the 3rd inning. This put the D-backs on the board and set the tone for the game.

In the 4th inning, the Diamondbacks exploded with Christian Walker, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Gabriel Moreno, and Jace Peterson all reaching base safely with base hits, scoring three runs before an out was recorded.

With this win, the Diamondbacks are now 9-2 against the Rockies this season. Brandon Pfaadt is scheduled to start tomorrow for Arizona; the first pitch is at 6:40 PM.
