The Diamondbacks got outscored in their three game set against the Dodgers 23-5. LA is leading the division and aren’t any slouches, but the theme in interviews was, “no excuse to play that way.” Torey Lovullo along with Walker was noted saying “Not enough to make us play the way we did, we gotta play better baseball.” He was asked about how being on the road against a good club contributed to the sweep.

Walker didn’t directly say he’s frustrated, but if you read his body language, he is. Walker claimed “We can expect more out of ourselves, but it was a good team.” The Diamondbacks slugger was very short with his answers, even stating “I got no answers, I don’t know, tough series.”

The veteran first baseman has a valid reason to be upset. Walker went a combined 2-9 at the plate. Arizona was outhit by the Dodgers 37-20 amongst the series.

Where do we go from here?

After the sweep, the Diamondbacks fall to 69-65 and half a game out of the wildcard. The Diamondbacks are lucky enough to have a series against the Giants once in September, and twice against the Cubs. Arizona does not have an easy last month, though.

The Diamondbacks have to face four playoff teams in the remainder of the season while they’re fighting to get in themselves. On one hand it’s great, playing October baseball in September is the best way to get prepared for playoff baseball. On the other hand, Arizona is still fighting to be a playoff team themselves.

Hoping for an easy path isn’t exactly the best mindset as a competitor, but right now we could use one.
