Following this diving play, Paul Sewald proceeded to walk the next batter, setting the stage for consecutive base hits.
Although Sewald managed to escape the inning without allowing any runs, Alek Thomas’ exceptional catch in center field looked to have prevented the Rangers from tying the game up.
In the broader scope of this season, Alek Thomas stands alongside Myles Straw as one of the only two center fielders who have maintained a perfect error-free record thus far.
Collectively, the Diamondbacks hold the top spot in the MLB with an impressive .991 fielding percentage. Notably, they’ve committed only 42 errors, a figure that stands nine below the second-ranking Orioles.
There’s no doubt that the Diamondbacks’ defensive stability stands as one of the pivotal factors contributing to their success this year.
