Manager Torey Lovullo provided insight into the anticipated timeline for Gabriel Moreno’s return to the major league action.

“He’s obviously asymptomatic, playing in games and feeling real good,” Lovullo said. “So getting him back here is a top priority to us, but we’ve gotta make sure that he’s feeling right. And he’s passing every test so far.”

Moreno was initially placed on the 10-day IL on July 23rd due to a shoulder injury. Since heading to the IL, the Diamondbacks hold an embarrassing record of 3-13.

While healthy, the 23-year-old catcher has posted a .270 batting average and a .676 OPS.

On the defensive end, Moreno is well known for his strong arm behind the plate. The rookie ranks third in the MLB with 17 runners thrown out stealing and leads the league with a 1.8 DWAR.

Although the Diamondbacks welcomed back Carson Kelly from injury at the start of June, his performance on the offensive front has not been consistently dependable. This underscores the increasing significance of Moreno’s impending return, as the struggling Diamondbacks offense seeks a boost from his presence.

In the meantime, the Diamondbacks are looking to end an eight-game losing streak as they take on the Padres at 6:40 PM.
