In total, the Cardinals and Broncos missed three field goals, and neither team managed to score until the seven-minute mark in the second quarter.

Veteran QB Colt McCoy led the charge for Arizona, going a perfect 4-4 for 17 yards in his initial drive. Following this, McCoy took a backseat as rookie Clayton Tune stepped onto the field to experience his inaugural snaps with the Cardinals.

Unfortunately, but as expected, Tune did not seem comfortable against an extremely talented Broncos’ defense. Tune’s first drive resulted in an interception after WR Rondale Moore slipped in the middle of his route.

The rookie’s stat line at the end of the first half: 6/13, 53 yards, 1 int, 2 sacks, 25.5 RTG

Conversely, the Cardinals’ defense showcased their prowess by limiting the Broncos’ first-team offense to a mere 10 points. The sole touchdown for the Broncos materialized on a 21-yard pass to WR Jerry Jeudy during a crucial 4th & 5 play.

Nevertheless, even with Russell Wilson and the starting wide receivers logging a significant portion of snaps, Denver recorded just 159 total yards.

After the Broncos tacked on a field goal to wrap up the first half, Jonathan Gannon gave a brief statement on what he saw:

“We have to clean some stuff up as a unit right now and stop shooting ourselves in the foot.”
