Diamondback secure series victory over Angels

The Arizona Diamondbacks secured a series victory over the Angels with a 3-1 Saturday night victory.

Rookie pitcher Ryne Nelson was masterful, making it two consecutive outstanding starts. Nelson tossed 7.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits.

Nelson topped his outing against the Giants six days ago, beating it by one out. As eerie as it may sound, the rookie allowed one run on three hits and struck out six batters in both starts.

And if that was not impressive enough, four of Nelson’s six strikeouts tonight were against the Angels’ Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.

The Angels’ only offensive production was a solo home run by Anthony Rendon. This blast in the fourth inning came with two outs and gave the Angels a 1-0 lead.

However, just like the Diamondbacks have done all year, they answered back in the 6th inning with two runs to take the lead.

With the number of runners Arizona left on base, including three in the 5th, it seemed like just a matter of time before the offense broke out.

The inning began with a base hit up the middle from Emmanuel Rivera. This was followed by Gabriel Moreno getting plunked in the back by a fastball.

Then, with two outs, recently promoted Dominic Fletcher drove in his team’s first run of the night with an infield single.

Three runs were all the Diamondbacks needed, as the bullpen was just as impressive as Ryne Nelson.

It will be their ace Zac Gallen on the mound tomorrow afternoon at 12:45 who will attempt to complete the sweep.
