Arizona State’s first class of 2025 commitment might also end up being its biggest. Four-star, dual-threat quarterback Michael Butter Tollefson, who hails from J Serra Catholic in San Juan Capistrano, California and is regarded one of the top quarterbacks in the state, announced his commitment to ASU today.

Tollefson is listed at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds and is already an elite prospect. He transferred to J Serra this off-season after playing his first two years at San Juan Hills High School. He recorded a 4.65 40-yard dash and 38-inch vertical at an Elite 11 event earlier this year.

According to MaxPreps, he completed 146-of-279 passes for 1,567 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games played his 2022 sophomore season, despite playing through injuries throughout the year. He also rushed 162 times for 644 yards and nine touchdowns, proving his versatility as a passer and runner.

He started six of nine games he played his freshman season and had 1,307 passing yards and 14 touchdowns to go along with 449 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

According to 247Sports, Tollefson is the No. 14 overall quarterback and No. 222 player in his class. Texas A&M was the other finalist for getting him, but he ultimately went with the Sun Devils.

He told 247Sports that he has known coach Kenny Dillingham since before he was even in high school and has been impressed with what Dillingham has done as a coach developing quarterbacks. He was first offered by ASU on Jan. 14 of this year, but was also offered by Dillingham at both Florida State and Oregon.

Tollefson has visited ASU twice already, most recently on June 9-10. He is now part of four top quarterbacks that Dillingham has already added in his short time with ASU, joining incoming four-star freshman Jaden Rashada, Notre Dame transfer Drew Pyne and BYU transfer Jacob Conover.

Dillingham hinted earlier today that another commitment is coming ASU’s way on Thursday.

The Sun Devils have 11 total commitments from the class of 2024 (none of which are QBs), but Tollefson is their first from the class of 2025 and has a good chance to be the quarterback of the future for ASU when his time comes.
