It appears that the Monty Williams decision wasn’t all tailored and made just between Mat Ishbia and James Jones. According to Shams Charania who joined 98.7 the game, Kevin Durant and Devin Booker were heavily kept in the loop about what was going on in the process.

“I’m told unequivocally this was an organizational decision from owner Mat Ishbia down to management and on down,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania told Arizona Sports’ Bickley & Marotta on Monday. “I do believe … Durant, Booker, these are all guys that were all involved during the process.” “That is my belief, that he was in the loop on it,”

With this news, it now doesn’t come as any surprise as to why Devin Booker wasn’t available for media availability during his exit interview last Friday. This also may be a sneak peek into Booker and Durant being in the loop for who the next head coach will be as well.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Ishbia was directly tied to the negotiations in regards to trading for Kevin Durant as soon as he became owner full-time and was the main catalyst of Monty Williams being relieved of his duties this past Saturday shortly after the Game 6 loss.

The question now becomes who will replace Monty Williams who served as a vital component to the Suns’ turn around over the years. Ishbia will have a lot of eyes and pressure on him moving forward.
