The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing their 3rd and final game of the series in St. Louis against the Cardinals. After winning the first two games, the D-Backs are going for the sweep with Bumgarner on the mound.

Madison Bumgarner has not been at the top of his game to start this 2023 season. Last year there were rumors the club was looking to trade the veteran pitcher.

Yet the front office could not find any suitors to make a trade happen. Thus far Bumgarner has started 3 games in 2023 and has posted a 0-2 record with a 7.90 ERA.

D-Backs/Cardinals

The D-Backs (11-7) are in first place in the NL West, something they have not been able to say in a few seasons. They have beaten the Cardinals 6-3 in the first game and pulled off a dramatic 8-7 victory last night.

St. Louis (7-11) have been struggling to find solid ground early in this season. The problem seems to be pitching as they keep losing high scoring games like the last two against Arizona.

The Cardinals allowing 14 runs over a two game stretch is something they will need to fix as soon as possible if they want to reach the potential that this lineup has.

Cardinals will throw Jake Woodford on the mound today against the D-Backs. Woodford is a 26 year old righty, who through 3 starts this season has pitched 14.1 innings. In those innings he has posted a 0-2 record and an ERA of 5.56.

Between him and Bumgarner, this game has runs being produced written all over it. Seems like it will come down to the bullpens and bats to decide this final game of the series.
