The Arizona Diamondbacks got some tough news as the Season opener is just around the corner. Their reliever Corbin Martin is expected to start the season on the 60-day injured list with a lat tear in his right shoulder according to John Gambadaro.

The Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo gave an update on his pitchers’ injury and he seems concerned about how it’ll ultimately look for him this season.

“No matter what, we feel like it’s going to be a long road to recovery,” said Lovullo on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Friday. “We’re still hunting the second opinions but there’s a lat tear there. That’s the original opinion… Very unfortunate for him.”

Corbin Martin was having a good Spring Training before the news broke out and happened. He spotted a 3.18 ERA after allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks to nine strikeouts. Martin is a promising up-and-coming prospect that looked like he was ready to take the next step.

“What I told him on the phone yesterday is that he was out there competing at a high level,” said Lovullo. “What it means is it’s time for somebody to step up. I’m looking for people to go out there and execute at a high level.”

As Lovullo said, this now gives an opportunity for other players to step up. They got other candidates in the bullpen like Kyle Nelson and Andrew Chafin who can step up and be impactful.
