The Phoenix Mercury season ended after a playoff loss to the Las Vegas Aces. The Mercury have many questions heading into the offseason, but point guard Skylar Diggins-Smith is expected back next year.
“Sky’s under contract for next year,” Mercury general manager Jim Pitman said. “She’s obviously not with us for personal reasons that I really can’t talk about, but she is under contract, so, yes.”
Diggins-Smith did not play in the last two games of the season due to personal reasons. She also missed time due to a non-covid illness. The point guard played great for the Mercury this season.
Diggins-Smith averaged 19.7 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. She shot 42% from the field and led the WNBA in minutes per game with 34.
Diggins-Smith had one of the best seasons of her career and was one of the main reasons Phoenix made the playoffs. In nine WNBA seasons, Diggins-Smith averaged 16.7 points per game.
