Blistering hot Mercury host Las Vegas Aces in Sunday’s afternoon matchup

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Mercury are riding a six-game winning streak and hope to make it seven as they host the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday afternoon.

After a successful road trip, the Mercury opened their home stand with a win against the New York Liberty, 106-91, on Friday night. Phoenix’s defense and efficient shooting kept the defending WNBA Champions from making any major runs.

The Mercury broke their franchise record of three-point shots in a single game with 18. They previously set the record in the same week against the Chicago Sky with 17 on June 21.

Satou Sabally scored 25 points with six rebounds and three assists for Phoenix.

Phoenix has improved to 12-4 in the season and continues to hold second in the Western Conference.

The Aces come off a loss against the Washington Mystics, 94-83, on Thursday, June 26. Las Vegas played from behind in the first three quarters before going on a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to nine points against Washington. The Aces were able to cut the deficit to seven in the final minutes, but couldn’t capitalize.

A’ja Wilson led scoring for Las Vegas with 22 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Las Vegas holds a 7-8 record and is fifth in the Western Conference.
