The Chicago Cubs come into town, bringing all of their Chicago faithful who live here with them, I assume. Taking a look at their 2024 campaign, they ranked 12th in the MLB in scored runs with 736 runs (4.5 per game), but only hit 170 homeruns which came in at 20th. Although they do make it up with their pitching. With a combined ERA of 3.79 last year, Chicago pitchers ended the season the 10th-best in baseball.

Taking a look at the Cubs’ roster:
Containing the Chicago stars will be key for winning the first series of the season. Nico Hoerner, who hit .273 last season including 35 doubles, will look to help lead this team. Alongside him are other all around good ball players with Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, and Dansby Swanson. They have talent, and keeping them subdued early will be key in this series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks made some noise last season as they lead the MLB last season with a .263 batting average along with hitting 211 homeruns, which was fifth-best in the entire league. Key players to watch in these opening series will be Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, and Zac Gallen. Storylines this first weekend might include: Does Corbin Carroll continue his spring training hot streak, and avenge the first half of last season? Will Ketel Marte showcase his MVP talent early on? Was Zac Gallen the right choice for Opening Day? Only time will tell, but this next weekend will give us a little glimpse into what this team will hopefully look like.
