PHOENIX – Belgium golfer Thomas Detry ends Round 3 of the Waste Management Phoenix Open with a massive five-stroke lead over a four-person pileup for second place headlined by Jordan Spieth. The 32-year-old Detry aims to win his first PGA tour event since he started competing in 2019.

Detry, in last year’s Phoenix Open, shot eight under par and finished T-28. He almost matched that total in Round 2 alone and continued that success on Saturday, shooting 65 on 71 par to finishing the round with -18.

Entering “The People’s Open,” Detry was a long shot at +9000 to bring home his first PGA tour win, but a monster Friday propelled him into first, and he hasn’t looked back. Now, the 58th-ranked golfer in the world is the heavy favorite at -150 to win, with Spieth behind him at +750.

Unless a disastrous Round 4, Detry will earn his first PGA tour event win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on Sunday.
