You could not have scripted it any better.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In his first major league game playing in his hometown of Miami, rookie Adrian Del Castillo launched a grand slam in the 1st inning, giving the Diamondbacks an early 4-0 lead over the Marlins.
Castillo grew up just outside Miami in Pinecrest, Florida, and attended the University of Miami before being drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 2nd round of the 2021 draft.
When Arizona’s starting catcher, Gabriel Moreno, went on the IL a few weeks ago, Castillo got the call to make his major league debut. Since then, he’s done nothing but hit. While his glove and arm don’t quite match Moreno’s behind the plate, Castillo has provided a significant boost to the Diamondbacks’ already potent offense.
In his second career major league game, Castillo went 3-for-5 at the plate, including a walk-off homer that gave the Diamondbacks a 3-2 win over the Phillies. He became the first player in Diamondbacks history to have their first career home run be a walk-off.
On Sunday, Castillo hit another clutch home run, a three-run shot that tied the game at six. Unfortunately, the D-backs eventually fell to the Rays in extra innings, completing a three-game sweep.
After that tough weekend, Castillo’s 1st inning grand slam against the Marlins was exactly what the team needed to regain their momentum.
Adding to the special moment, Castillo’s family was in attendance to witness the home run.
Adrian Del Castillo has so many friends & family in the stands. He crushed a foul ball earlier in the AB where the Dbacks dugout turned around hearing how loud they reacted
Couple pitches later, hits a grand slam back in his hometown. Baseball is so cool pic.twitter.com/hj7jC1m6Y4
