Getting to this moment of his career to be drafted has been a long journey, but he reached a lifelong goal most young baseball players would dream of.

Growing up in Montana, Omlid attended Hamilton (Mont.) High School which didn’t sponsor baseball. Despite that hurdle, however, he earned all-state honors twice as a legion baseball player.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, he committed to Boise State for college even though the program was temporarily reinstated. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound righty made four appearances for the Broncos with a 2-1 record, one save, 15 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA in 13 innings. Boise State’s baseball program was disbanded in 2021.

Finishing his lone season in Idaho, Omlid would then transfer to a JUCO for his sophomore year in 2021, heading to Central Arizona College in Coolidge. There, he pitched 89.2, owned a 13-1 record, 3.31 ERA, and collected 97 strikeouts and a save for the Vaqueros who finished 51-9 that season.

Making a switch back to the NCAA Divison I level, Omlid remained in the Valley but transferred to GCU. He played two seasons as a Lope, recording a 4.19 ERA, 34 strikeouts and a 2-1 record in 19 appearances and 38.2 innings. Omlid was in the starting rotation before becoming a reliever toward the end of his tenure at Grand Canyon.

With a fifth year of eligibility left due to the pandemic, Omlid exercised it and transferred for the third time, picking ASU. He had a 6.69 ERA, a 2-2 record, one save and 54 strikeouts in 20 games and 37.2 innings.

Omlid was the fourth Sun Devil to be selected in the 2024 MLB Draft. Outfielder Nick McClain (No. 78 pick, Chicago White Sox), catcher Ryan Campos (No. 109, St. Louis Cardinals) and pitcher Ryan Schiefer (No. 426, Tampa Bay Rays) were all drafted out of ASU. 2025 Sun Devils commit Nick Montgomery was taken in the fifth round, No. 161 overall by the Atlanta Braves.
