Why the Diamondbacks may not need to trade for a first baseman

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks have yet to indicate whether they’ll be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline, but if they decide to add, reports have connected the Snakes to the market for a power-hitting first baseman.

Fans were especially quick to dream after Willson Contreras, who has been linked to the team as a potential fit, put on a show in the Home Run Derby on Monday night. A proven power bat like his is enticing, and Arizona could certainly use more production at first base. But the D-Backs may not have to look outside the organization to address the position.
