The Mercury defeated the Fever, 111-109, in a game marked by escalating tension between the teams since their first meeting earlier in the week. One of the most notable flashpoints came during a sequence involving Indiana star Caitlin Clark and Phoenix star Alyssa Thomas, as the two were involved in a play for a loose ball.
On another play, Clark attempted to make a 3-point shot but stepped on Valériane Ayayi’s foot, with no official review for reckless closeout. The Fever standout later left the game with a back injury and did not return.

White was visibly frustrated after the game with what she viewed as officials’ continued failure to adequately protect Clark, one of the league’s biggest stars and a central figure for Indiana.
“You’re coming in here aware of what happened two nights ago, and that sh- still happens?” White questioned. “Absolutely unacceptable… We have a generational talent and a WNBA superstar who had two cheap shots right there that weren’t called.”
“We spent all offseason looking at officiating, all offseason. And I still say the one thing that we keep asking for is consistency. She is not called the same way everybody else is called.”

The incidents were the latest chapter in a rivalry that has quickly developed between the two clubs. Monday’s game already featured heightened physicality and emotional exchanges, resulting in multiple technical fouls assessed to both teams.
White’s postgame criticism only added to the scrutiny surrounding the officiating, which became a central storyline after the final buzzer.
For Phoenix, however, the result represented a hard-fought bounce-back victory after an 86-77 loss to Indiana earlier in the week.
