GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals are in a tough position with their Pro Bowl edge rusher, who is gaining plenty of interest in trade talks. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday that the franchise has received trade calls for Josh Sweat. The 29-year-old just finished his first season of the four-year, $76.4 million deal he signed last offseason. Despite the impressive 12 sack season, Arizona still went 3-14, leading opposing teams trying to snag the talented edge in a trade.

Sweat garnering interest from teams:

Reports have indicated that Sweat isn’t happy about his time with the Cardinals have gone. Going 3-14 and firing head coach Jonathan Gannon, who Sweat had a close relationship with, will have that affect on a person. The problem can be salvage, but would Arizona want to save the partnership? The team is projected to be one of the worst team’s in the league. A premier edge rusher won’t solve the bigger issues at large.

The Cardinals could save some much-needed cap room to give out extensions to Paris Johnson Jr. and Michael Wilson. Offloading the rest of Sweat’s salary could open up some cap space for next offseason, where the franchise is expected to have over $100 million. The moves this offseason have clearly illustrated Arizona is playing for 2027 and keeping Sweat on the roster seems to be a unnecessary luxury. It wouldn’t be shocking for the organization to pull the plug after only one year.

Is Gardner Minshew the Cardinals answer at quarterback in 2026?
