Phoenix entering the first round won’t be simple, but recent history suggests the organization is comfortable maneuvering around the board. Over the last two drafts, the Suns repeatedly traded picks to target specific prospects, landing Ryan Dunn, Oso Ighodaro, and Koby Brea through aggressive draft-night movement. This year’s class could make that strategy even more valuable. The top of the draft is considered one of the strongest in recent years, but league evaluators also see depth in the middle tier, especially among players with NBA-ready defensive skills. That aligns directly with Phoenix’s biggest roster concerns.

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin O’Connor, one potential fit is Florida big man Rueben Chinyelu, a physically imposing interior defender who rose through the NBA Academy Africa system before helping anchor a national championship defense. His projected NBA role is straightforward, focusing on rebounding, defending the paint, finishing around the rim, and bringing toughness.

The bigger question is how Phoenix creates a path into the round. A player-based trade may be the cleanest option. Mark Williams’ restricted free agency could open sign-and-trade conversations, while veterans Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale may attract interest from playoff teams seeking reliable rotation depth. For Suns fans, they understand Phoenix’s margin for error is shrinking. If they could find extra help to pair with Khaman Maluach, it could be the move the Suns are willing to make.

Would the Phoenix Suns ever consider trading for star PG Ja Morant?
