In the bottom of the first inning with an 0-2 count, Carroll ripped a 97.3 mph fastball off the Kingman native for a 410 foot home run. This was the only run made in the contest between the two clubs.

The homer was more than just an early run in the contest.

Since 2021, only five other left-handed batters have homered off the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner — until Carroll. As just the sixth lefty to do so in five years, it highlights Carroll’s growing impact at the plate against dominant arms like Skubal.

Skubal’s rise from Kingman to the major leagues has been steady, already earning him multiple honors at the highest level. His career 3.04 ERA is a testament to his consistency, with his time in Arizona helping shape the pitcher he has become.

Carroll, a Seattle native, is not a product of Arizona’s high school pipeline like Skubal. However, he represents the Diamondbacks’ ability to develop elite hitters internally within the organization.

Since being drafted in 2019 and working his way through the minors, the outfielder has become an offensive force for Arizona. That development culminated in Silver Slugger honors in 2025 — another indicator that the club’s system can elevate talent to the next level.

Arizona’s baseball identity has evolved. It is no longer defined solely by what the state produces, but also by what organizations can build in the desert.

Carroll’s home run off a Kingman native wasn’t produced in the Valley, but it was shaped by it.
