Known for his speed and tracking ability on the field, Tyson showcased a different skill for scouts — his strength. In the 225-pound bench press, he recorded 26 repetitions, which, according to Devil Digest’s Justin LaCertosa, was just one shy of the wide receiver combine record.

The bench press is typically dominated by linemen and tight ends, making Tyson’s near-record mark especially notable at a position that prioritizes speed and separation. His ability to rank among the top historical performers at his position adds another asset to his résumé for scouts to consider.

Arizona State has long emphasized toughness and development in its program, and having a former player display that strength on a national stage brings recognition to the program that helped shape him. It also reinforces the emphasis teams place on versatility and physical durability.

Tyson’s performance reflects the preparation required for the combine. Prospects spend weeks fine-tuning their technique and building strength, and his near-record showing signals dedication to maximizing his draft stock.

While other areas — such as the 40-yard dash and on-field drills — often define a receiver’s evaluation, strength remains an underrated component of the position.

As the draft approaches, Tyson’s performance may have strengthened his case as one of the more physically intriguing receivers in this year’s class.
