The baseball program announced that former ASU running back Cam Skattebo and former Sun Devil first baseman Spencer Torkelson will participate, continuing the school’s effort to deepen community engagement while placing an early spotlight on the program ahead of the 2026 season.
Skattebo, a standout during his time with the Sun Devils, has elevated his profile by emerging as one of the NFL’s young players to watch with the New York Giants. While at Arizona State, he played a key role in the program’s Big 12 championship run during its first season in the conference.

Torkelson, meanwhile, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and has established himself as a consistent power hitter at the major league level with the Detroit Tigers. During his time in Tempe, the first baseman hit 54 home runs in just two and a half seasons, finishing only three shy of the school record.
With two Arizona State products finding success at the highest professional level in their respective sports, the addition of Skattebo and Torkelson further elevates the appeal of the softball game.

Arizona State has long valued its athletic greats, and inviting former Sun Devils back to campus brings additional attention to the event, particularly from fans who may not have otherwise been aware of it. The game also draws interest from their respective professional fan bases, as Giants and Tigers supporters follow alumni ties back to Tempe.
With baseball season approaching in Tempe, the event offers a fitting way to bridge the program’s past and present.
