According to Good Morning Ball’s Aaron Hughes, the Diamondbacks have signed right-handed pitcher Derek Law to a minor league contract. Law most recently pitched for the Washington Nationals, serving as one of their more reliable relievers during the 2024 season.

Law missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a flexor tendon injury, which remains the primary question mark surrounding his availability.

Despite the injury, Law’s recent performance is worth noting. He posted a 2.60 ERA across 90 innings in 2024, showing steady command and an ability to limit damage — traits Arizona has emphasized as it looks to stabilize a bullpen that has leaned heavily on younger arms. That workload reflected the trust he earned from Washington’s coaching staff when healthy.

The Diamondbacks’ bullpen picture remains fluid at this point, making Law’s minor league deal a low-risk move that provides organizational flexibility. If healthy, he could emerge as a veteran presence capable of bridging innings or stepping into matchup-based roles.

If not, the club can allow Law additional time to complete his recovery in a controlled environment.

Overall, the signing represents a low-risk depth move aimed at adding relief options as the season progresses, while giving Law a clear path back to the major leagues after missing all of last year.
