The Sun Devils defense started strong to begin the game, keeping the Eagles scoreless for the first four minutes, with Gabby Elliott making a critical jump shot block. ASU went on a 7-2 run before the Eagles’ Elyn Bowers cut the run with a three-point shot.

Eastern Washington was able to mount a small comeback, cutting the deficit to five at one point. Despite the defense faltering, Arizona State was able to keep Eastern Washington to 15 points in the second quarter, taking a 32-24 lead into halftime.

ASU opened the second half on a 15-2 run, keeping EWU scoreless for over five minutes and taking a commanding 52-32 lead after the third quarter. The Sun Devils’ run in the third was enough to keep them leading by double-digit points and take their second win of the season.

Elliott, a five-year senior, reached 1,000 career points in the win with 15 points total and shooting 7-for-11.

The Sun Devils are set to play their first road game of the season, and the players say they’re ready to “handle business” as they head to California next week.

“Showing up and coming in with the right attitude and mindset and ready to lock in and focus on those little details,” Jyah LoVett said on how the players plan to prepare. “… Pay attention to those little details and I think we all do a good job at that as a team.”

Head coach Molly Miller credits the team’s preseason trip to Northern Arizona as a key part of its preparation for out-of-state games.

“Shout out to all of our ops and staff,” Miller said. “We’ve got an itinerary that’s about as detailed as they come.”
