TEMPE — After a stunning win Saturday, Arizona State received bad news as wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is ruled out for this week’s matchup against Houston with a hamstring injury.

The junior wide receiver was injured in the third quarter of Saturday’s game but was able to play through the remainder of it. Tyson had 10 catches for 105 yards and one touchdown — the team’s winning touchdown.

Tyson’s injury is one of many the Sun Devils have had to overcome this season, but his production will undoubtedly leave a hole in the offense. As the team looks to build momentum following a 26–22 win over then-No. 7 Texas Tech, the junior’s absence could impact offensive chemistry, but head coach Kenny Dillingham said the team needs to keep working and focus on what’s ahead.

“We’re banged up,” Dillingham said on Wednesday, according to Blaze Sports’ Jakob Brooks. “Like I told the guys, nobody cares. We gotta get guys healthy. We gotta work to get healthy. We gotta go out there and fight and compete.”

While Tyson’s injury will undoubtedly make headlines, it also creates buzz around who will step up in his absence. Dillingham said the junior has remained active in practice, helping to mentor the younger wide receivers.

“It’s huge, the respect they have for [Tyson],” he said. “You’re around the top wide receiver in college football for the draft this year. Any time you’re around that guy, that’s something you better learn from.”

The Sun Devils may also be without Jordan Crook, Ghost Rowser and Boogie Wilson as they’re listed as questionable.

Arizona State will no doubt have some adjustments to make before facing Houston, and it will be interesting to see how the group steps up without some of their starters.

Arizona State and Houston will face off on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m.
