Cardinals QB Kyler Murray reacts to Emari Demercado’s fumble at goal line

GLENDALE – The biggest viral moment of Sunday’s game for the Arizona Cardinals was running back Emari Demercado dropping the ball at the one-yard line for the what was perceived as the game-sealing touchdown. One play doesn’t defined the loss, but the fumble was a massive play for the Tennessee Titans to eventually pull off the 18-point comeback to win 22-21.

Quarterback Kyler Murray was asked post game about the play, and if it game the Titans momentum to make the comeback. The team captain was honest about the play but still defended his teammate.

Murray on the Demercado fumble:

“If I was on the other side, and I see that, it’s kind of a sigh of relief. It’s about to be 28 points, would’ve been a two, three score game. [The] game is probably over, but that happens. I wouldn’t say it gave them momentum but it gave them a sense of life and hope, which you can’t give teams in the NFL.

“I’m really close with Emari. I know his character, I know his IQ of the game and never in a million years would I think Emari would do that. We all make mistakes, he’s going to take that on the chin, and he understands that. We all got to be better.”

Murray spoke more on how the offense needs to better and how he trusted the play calling in late-game situations. Sunday’s game marks five-straight games that Arizona had the ball to ice the game with the ball and couldn’t do it. The first two weeks, the defense held up but the unit couldn’t secure the win the past three weeks on walk-off field goals.
