GLENDALE – For the first time in years, the Arizona Cardinals enter a season not just aiming to compete in the NFC West, but with a legitimate chance to rule it. The division may still carry the reputations of the Seahawks, 49ers, and Rams, though the gap between Arizona and the so-called contenders has narrowed more than many realize.

The 2024 campaign closed with the Cardinals sitting at 8-9, a record that might turn heads until you dig deeper. Arizona averaged 23.5 points per game, finishing in the league’s upper half offensively. Defensively, they held opponents under 23 points per game, a balanced profile that hinted at a team ready to break through. Even in losses, the Cardinals showed they could keep pace with top offenses and frustrate high-powered attacks.

Meanwhile, their rivals showed cracks. The Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams both finished with 10 wins, but neither team statistically separated itself greatly from Arizona. San Francisco’s injury issues exposed the 49ers’ lack of depth, and the Cardinals’ late-season win over the San Francisco 49ers reinforced that they can seize momentum in key matchups. What matters most to Cardinals fans is that this is the first genuine opportunity in years for Arizona to take the division. After two grueling seasons, the combination of an ascending quarterback, a fortified defense, and a young core finding its stride makes this team more dangerous than the standings suggest.

The NFC West has been a proving ground for some of the NFL’s most complete teams. In 2025, it might be Arizona’s turn to take the lead. With balanced play, a clearer identity, and divison rivals showing their vulnerability, the Cardinals are build to take the top spot.
