This isn’t the first time the 34-year-old has been hit on one of his hands this season, having been hit a few times throughout the season — even in this year’s All-Star game. However, this instance may have come at the worst time for the slugger.
With the trade deadline approaching, Suárez has been one of the top targets, posting 36 home runs, 87 RBIs and a .898 OPS. Twelve different teams have been trying to trade for the third baseman, but with the uncertainty of his latest injury, he might not be traded at all.

According to Arizona Central’s José M. Romero, Suárez told reporters his X-rays came back negative but he will get more tests done. The D-Backs have said Suárez will be “day-to-day” in terms of playing time.
A potential injury might not be the only thing to cool down Suárez’s trade talks.
Since sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals, the Diamondbacks have lost six out of their last seven games. During that stretch, Suárez is batting .120 with three hits, including a home run and two RBIs. After a scorching start to begin the second half of the season, the All-Star has been a little quieter.

The New York Yankees were one of the teams aggressively pursuing Suárez and decided to go with another trading candidate.
Although Suárez is still in trading discussions, the D-Backs might keep the third baseman the rest of the season, depending on his next health update.
