PHOENIX – Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant’s next team is up in the air. The only certainty surrounding the 15-time All-Star is that he won’t be in the Valley next season. Sources throughout the league has different leads of where Durant will go, but apparently the former MVP has an idea where he might end up. According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, a close source to Durant revealed that the 36-year-old believes he’ll end up on the San Antonio Spurs this Summer.

Gambadoro on source close to Durant:

The Spurs have plenty of draft assets and young prospects that would interest the Suns. A key piece in the trade would be Harrison Barnes expiring contract, which will help the franchise immensely with its cap situation. Phoenix is currently over the second apron, and a main priority in any Durant trade this summer is to get under that mark before facing the heavy consequences.

San Antonio went out to get an All-Star in DeAaron Fox during the All-Star break to pair with second-year sensation Victor Wembanyama, who was on pace for the defensive player of the year before a blood clots scare ended his season. Adding in another elite player in Durant accelerates the Spurs rebuild and fast tracks Wembyanyama and his team to contenders.

Suns general manager Brian Gregory could seek a haul of draft assets, including the 14th pick in this year’s draft and an Atlanta Hawks 2026 pick that the Spurs control. The return of multiple first-round picks, Harrison Barnes and one or more of Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson. Phoenix would get under the second apron, while recouping draft assets and staying a win-now team to keep franchise shooting guard Devin Booker engaged.
