Merrill Kelly came back down to earth a little bit after looking like one of the most locked-in pitchers in the league. Kelli only pitched five innings while giving up four earned runs on six hits on Friday night. Arizona showed some resiliency and grit as they kept fighting and punching back though. They will need to find that energy and mentality again on Saturday.

Saturday night pitchers:

The D-Backs will be riding with Brandon Pfaadt on Saturday night. Pfaadt has been a stable and steady presence all season though in his last three appearances, he hasn’t pitched more than six innings and has given up at least three earned runs in each outing. Pfaadt is tied for first currently with the most wins with a 7-3 record and has a 3.90 ERA so far in 2025.

Washington will be hoping Mike Soroka can hold it down tonight in Arizona. Soroka has a lowly 1-3 record and an ERA of 5.61. In his last outing against the Giants, he pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits in a loss to San Francisco.

It’s been a slippery slope to end the month of May for the D-Backs. They can end it on some high hopes or another sad note, though it starts on Saturday night. The first pitch at Chase Field tonight is at 7:10 p.m. PT.
