ST. LOUIS – The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to break through this slump on Saturday morning, as the D-Backs get ready for the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

It was a quiet one early on Friday night until Ketel Marte got things going for the D-Backs. However, the train stopped early as Arizona couldn’t get any more runs on the board until a late Gabriel Moreno two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth got them within a run. The Snakes were able to gain some momentum at the end of Friday’s matchup, to hopefully bring into Saturday with them.

Saturday’s pitchers:

Merrill Kelly will get the start for the D-Backs, with Arizona hoping that Kelly can continue his masterful season so far with a 5-2 record and a 3.26 ERA. In Kelly’s last two games, he has pitched seven full innings and only has given up one earned run. His cramping issues seem to be a thing of the past, which is a relief as Arizona cannot use any more injuries to their pitching staff.

The Snakes will have another tough matchup today as Matthew Liberatore will be on the mound today for St. Louis. He has a 3-3 record, though his three wins came at home, and his ERA at Busch Stadium is 1.80. His last outing was a loss for the Cardinals, but Liberatore pitched six innings while only giving up one earned run on six hits. He is hittable but is very good at navigating and getting out of tough situations.

Arizona could lose their second straight series in a row with a loss today, after dropping a winnable series in Los Angeles. Corbin Carroll will have a day off with Randal Grichuk in right field today. Ketel Marte will be leading off and moving to DH while Jordan Lawlar will take over duties at second base. Tim Tawa will get the start in center field as well, as head coach Torey Lovullo is trying to pull out a new lineup to face a sturdy Matthew Liberatore. First pitch on Saturday is at 11:10 a.m. MT.
