It was a pitchers duel early on in Friday nights matchup on St. Louis. Miles Mikolas didn’t allow a hit through three innings until Ketel Marte smashed one to deep center field to give the D-Backs a 1-0 lead.

Zac Gallen looked lethal on Friday night as he only allowed one hit through five innings. It was a welcome sight to see Gallen get his command, confidence, and charisma back as he was dealing on Friday.. until Gallen hit a brick wall after five innings pitched.

After a solid oputing, in the sixth inning Gallen looked shaky and gave up a single to Victor Scott II and walked Lars Nootbaar. Ketel Marte made an amazing defensive play at first covering for Josh Naylor, that might have saved a couple runs. After an intentional walk to Brendan Donovan, Gallen walked Ivan Herrera to tie the game up. Shortly after striking out Alec Burleson looking, Nolan Arenado hit one deep that a sliding Alek Thomas couldn’t manage to catch.

Arizona trusted Gallen, as they have his whole career. Head coach Torey Lovullo and company elected to not have anybody warming up in the bullpen, so the sixth inning was all Gallen’s, until help was needed. Juan Morillo and Scott McGough looked decent in their appearances, as neither of them gave up a hit. Gabriel Moreno had a clutch two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning that gave the Diamondbacks a chance, although the Snakes couldn’t end up capitalizing on Moreno’s moment. Arizona will look to get some payback in a day game at Busch Gardens tomorrow with first pitch being at 11:15 am PT.
